Treasure From Trash
In this in-depth lesson I will show you step-by-step how to create my popular Amazon mailer junk journal that you've seen in my videos and lessons. I'll also walk you through how to prep the pages and start filling it with your own personal art journaling.

Lesson Description & Goals
I'm going to teach you step-by-step how to create a 'Junk Journal'. A handmade journal made from different types of paper you may have lying around or have found in vintage or secondhand shops.
The wonderful thing about a junk journal is that it's a great place to really express yourself and to embrace imperfection. The journal itself is made to be quirky, asymmetrical and imperfect so you won't be afraid of spoiling it or like you can only make 'good art' in it.
You'll learn how to:
- select your paper
- put together and sew the signatures
- sew the signatures into the cover
- prepare the pages of your journal
- start working in your junk journal
At the end of this workshop you will have created your own junk journal and have the skills to create many more in the future.

What students said about the course
Your instructions were so clear Iris Fritschi-Cussens. I used a cereal box for my cover and put in 3 signatures. Loved this.
Linda Wakeman Krisjanis
Thank you Iris for an awesome lesson!
Dianna Reiter
I love making books, such fun. I used pages from a notebook, scrapbook paper and brown paper bags, everything came from my small stash that I carry with me in our camper. Thanks Iris for a lovely lesson on looking for treasure amongst the trash, so much like life, looking for the good amongst all the bad in the world.
Nisse Spicer-Boyes
I had a ridiculous amount of fun doing this junk journal!!!!
THANK YOU Iris for teaching us!!!! I LOVED it!!!

Finally tackled this lesson and I loved it. Having a junk journal is a perfect place to play without worrying about the outcome. It inspired a lot of journaling too.

About your teacher
Hello creative person! I’m Iris from iris-impressions.com and this website is where I offer online mixed media & art journaling courses and workshops.
I’m a mixed media artist from London and I believe in the magical powers of art! To me making art serves many purposes: fun, relaxation, healing, processing feelings, making pretty things, connecting with others (and more that I can't think of right now!).
I believe in simplicity and clarity when it comes to both painting and teaching. My videos & PDFs don't waste your time and will tell you exactly what you need to know so you can spend more time actually creating art.
We are all on this journey together, learning about how to face our fears and find inspiration. I love sharing honestly about my joys, struggles and discoveries (plus techniques and art supplies!). My courses are a culmination of everything I have learned so far!
I really hope you will join me on Treasure From Trash!
